Academic experts' vision on implementing distance learning strategy in Egyptian public universities

Abstract

Distance education has become a fundamental axis in the advanced learning system, as a result of the development of information technology, which resulted in an increase in the efficiency of distance education forms and methods, with the aim of keeping pace with the continuous cognitive and technical developments, raising the cultural, scientific and intellectual level in society, and creating a virtual interactive environment via the Internet so that the student and teacher can meet through it and exchange information and scientific discussions, and help students who lack the ability to attend various education and training centers, which requires developing this system and introducing the latest technological techniques to it, so that nations can achieve the required quality at different levels of education and a research topic that discusses distance education and its importance in developing the educational process in university education, as the study aims to determine the objectives of distance education from the point of view of social experts, determine the material requirements for implementing distance education in Egyptian universities, determine the human requirements for implementing distance education in Egyptian universities, determine the difficulties facing Egyptian universities in implementing distance education, and reach proposed mechanisms to activate distance education in Egyptian universities. The researcher also used a questionnaire applied to academic experts (Faculty of Computers and Information - Faculty of Media) Cairo University. The social survey method was also used; the study sample was 30 individuals from academic experts. The study concluded that the general level of human requirements for implementing distance education is high with an average of 2.38. The requirements were determined by the importance of technical preparation capable of acquiring new skills and adapting them first hand to serve distance education, providing the necessary training courses for students in distance education technologies, the necessity of the permanent presence of the technical team and facilitating communication with it so that the recipient can contact them if he faces any obstacle and find support from them, and the necessary training courses for faculty members in distance education technologies, as well as training courses for administrators in distance education technologies.
