Obstacles to social support for elderly women

Abstract

The study aims to define the obstacles related to the provision of social support services to older women in Saudi society, whether it is family level or social care homes level, or at the level of the society as a whole.
The study also aims to present some proposed solutions to overcome these obstacles. With regard to the descriptive study, the social survey method was applied. The number of participants in the study population reached 61 older women.
The results of the study revealed the most important obstacles to family support according to the viewpoint of older women in social care homes. Included:
-The preoccupation of family members from taking care of the private affairs of the older woman.
-The lack of acceptance of family members for the older woman,
-The lack of communication of family members with the older.
The results of the study also showed that the older women did not admit the existing obstacles of providing social support for the older women, such as:
-The inability of the Care Homes to meet the physical needs of the older women
-The failure to benefit from the experiences of the older women in the Social Care Homes.
The study also revealed that older women did not admit the social obstacles represented in Lack of intentional programs to benefit from the experience's women in Saudi society.
In conclusion, the study arrived at the several proposals that may help in overcoming these obstacles.
