Children's use of electronic games exposes them to cybersecurity risks: a field study

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal patterns of children’s use of electronic games and its effects on them, which exposes them to cybersecurity risks, as well as the role of the family in controlling their children’s use of these games and protecting them from their effects and risks. This study falls within exploratory research, as it aims to reveal patterns of children’s use of electronic internet games. The role of the family in control and the consequences of that, as cybersecurity exposes them to the dangers resulting from that. The results revealed the widespread use of electronic Internet games among the children in the study sample, as well as cybersecurity and its impact on them, as well as controlling children’s toys, and its impact on their feelings, time, and relationships. The study ended with an emphasis on The importance of this study is the effect of electronic games on children based on family dominance, and taking into account the cooperation of this effect according to the nature of the relationship between parents and children and their role in controlling time for children and their organizational relationships. It also ended with a recommendation to pay attention to enacting laws to legalize, organize and classify electronic games and spread awareness of their harms and the role of parents and educators in protecting them. Children and in training children to protect themselves.
