The Role of Social Innovation In Promoting Local Development (An Applied Study on the Social and Tourism Programs of Diriyah Gate Development Authority)

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the role of social innovation in promoting local development among tourists and beneficiaries of the tourism and social programs provided by the Diriyah Gate Development Authority. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was prepared consisting of (16) items distributed in four axes (social participation, social acceptance, social recreation, and cultural communication). Each axis consists of (4) items, and its validity and reliability have been confirmed. The study sample consisted of (406) tourists or visitors within the Diriyah Gate area, were selected by a simple random method. The study showed several results, including the following: The role of social innovation in promoting local development from the perspective of tourists and beneficiaries of the tourism and social programs provided by the Diriyah Gate Development Authority was high, and the domains of “social participation” and “social acceptance” ranked first, followed in third rank the domain “cultural communication.”, The domain "social recreation" ranked fourth and last. There are no statistically significant differences in the role of social innovation in promoting local development in the domains of (social participation, social acceptance, social recreation, and cultural communication) according to the gender variable.
