Abstract
This study examines the Taiwan crisis as one of the most prominent threats to security and stability in the East Asian region, particularly in light of the ongoing Chinese military escalation and continued U.S. support for Taiwan. The study highlights the evolution of China-Taiwan relations and the increasing military activities by Beijing around the island, including naval and aerial maneuvers and repeated airspace violations, all of which reflect a significant rise in regional tensions. It also reviews international responses, with a particular focus on military alliances such as AUKUS (the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom) and the Quad alliance (which also includes Japan and India), and their roles in counterbalancing Chinese influence. The study further notes a shift in the positions of some Southeast Asian countries toward more cautious approaches, due to the complex interplay of their security and economic interests with China. The research adopts several analytical approaches, including the historical method to trace the roots of the crisis, the national interest approach to explain state behavior, and the systems theory to analyze the dynamics and outcomes of the crisis. It concludes that continued escalation could destabilize regional security and increase the risk of military confrontation. The study recommends activating diplomatic dialogue, de-escalating the arms race, and strengthening the role of regional organizations in containing the crisis and preventing a broader conflict.
