A Proposed Program from the Perspective of Generalist Social Work Practice to raise awareness among University Students about the Risks of Electronic Betting and Gambling on Community Security

Abstract

research aimed to identify the forms of electronic betting and gambling, determine the factors leading to their spread , determine the risks resulting from them , determine the role of the social worker in raising awareness of their risks, identify the obstacles facing the social worker in raising awareness of their risks, and come up with a proposed program from the perspective of generalist social work practice to raise awareness of their risks on community security. it is a descriptive study, relied on comprehensive social survey of all social workers working in the youth care departments at all faculties of Assiut University, whose number (69) individuals across (19) practical and theoretical faculties, and a comprehensive social survey of university students in the Student Union whose number reached (277) individuals. The research was applied to all youth care departments across all faculties of Assiut University, which are (19) theoretical and practical faculties. Two research tools were used: one was a questionnaire applied to the university students (the research sample), and the other was a questionnaire applied to the social workers (the research sample). The research was conducted during the period from (13/5/2025) to (2/6/2025). The research results concluded that the factors leading to the spread of electronic betting and gambling, their forms, and the risks associated with them were all high, while the roles of the social worker in educating university students about the risks of electronic betting and gambling on community security were moderate.
