The role of NGOs in managing environmental crises and improving the quality of life

Abstract

The study aimed to identify the role of non-governmental organizations NGOs in managing environmental crises, determine the indicators for improving quality of life, explore the strategies adopted by NGOs in crisis management, and highlight the challenges and proposed solutions they face in this context. This research belongs to the category of descriptive and analytical studies, which seek to describe and analyze the role of NGOs in managing environmental crises. The study employed the comprehensive social survey method and was applied to 82 officials working in NGOs located in Aswan City. The main tool of data collection was a structured questionnaire directed at these officials. Key findings indicated that the overall mean score for the role of NGOs in managing environmental crises reached (2.47), which is considered a high level. This role was reflected across three key phases: the preparedness and prevention phase, the emergency response phase, and the recovery and reconstruction phase. Additionally, the results related to dimensions of quality of life showed an overall mean of (2.41), also indicating a high level, particularly across the social, economic, and health dimensions. The main concepts used in the study included: environmental crisis management, civil society organizations, and quality of life.
