Abstract

The concept of cyberbullying began to appear in educational institutions as a result of the information and communications revolution and the spread of the Internet and social networking sites. Cyberbullying has become more dangerous than other types of bullying. This has led to academic and applied interests for various professions to reduce the negative aspects of cyberbullying. Social work is one of the most important of these professions, which reinforces the motives of the current study. Within the framework of the above, the research aimed to identify the requirements of the professional role of the social worker as a social planner in reducing cyberbullying among university students. A questionnaire tool was applied to measure these requirements on the total number of social workers working in the General Administration for Youth Care at Helwan University, amounting to (140) social specialists. The general results of the research showed that the total score of cognitive requirements, value requirements, technological requirements, and skill requirements were at a high level, while the most important obstacles were the lack of cooperation between university students and social workers in reducing the risks of electronic bullying. The most important suggestions for improving the professional role of social workers as social planners in reducing the risks of electronic bullying were to provide a sufficient number of social workers in the university youth care departments in a manner that suits the nature of their work with university students.
